A cohesive strategy on linking - to all other published information - is vital in developing visibility online.

 CrossRef is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to enable easy identification and use of trustworthy electronic content by promoting the cooperative development and application of a sustainable infrastructure. Over 3,500 publishers now participate in CrossRef initiatives as well as a range of information providers, libraries and affiliates within publishing.

  From Openly Informatics Inc., now part of OCLC, a site summarizing the features of inter-journal linking, including some comment on the legal framework and "linking custom and etiquette."
